Depressed and in HR

7 years ago 0 2 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have found I have been making some serious mistakes at my job resulting from depression, anxiety and stress. Now I'm in a position that I need to my boss before she decides that I can't do my job. I have to say, I'm very anxious about her response. I did speak with her quite some time ago on some other issues and her response was to "stay positive" in other words I felt like she was telling me to "shake it off" I don't expect any sympathy, just some understanding that sometimes we are "not well" and need a little help. In my opinion depression is no different than other illnesses it's just that you can't see it.

I agree with AnneMaryCR not to give 'too much information.' I believe this is one case where less is better.

Wish me luck

I have told my employer I have anxiety and they were quite supportive. I didn't get into the depression side of it or some of my family situation. I was worried it would be 'too much information' and people might think I wasn't able to do my job. So, I guess I've been partially honest...I commend you on your ability to walk the walk and tell your employer your situation.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It was very brave of you to be honest with your boss.

How did it turn out?

hi, ive been chronically depressed for years, longer than I've been and hr professional, so when I had to talk to my boss about accommodation, instead of lying, i  had to be  honešt to practice what I preach. This has been harder than I expected and definitely depends on the manager. Have others felt similar?
