Hey Gimm!

You said you still want to smoke often, but you are not having cravings or withdrawals! I'm thinking that the opposite is actually true! If you still wanted to smoke, you wouldn't be quit right now!

The thing is, you really do NOT want to smoke, but you are going to continue to have these memories of the past where you loved to smoke when you did this and that. Heck, lots of us who have been smober for a while still get these thoughts about how we loved to smoke doing certain things. The thing is, they are just thoughts and because we are now NON-SMOKERS, we simply acknowledge the fact that, yes, we "used to" love to smoke back then. Now though, we think about that stinky smoker, we think about how we NEVER want to go through Hell Week again, we think about all of the great things that are going for us as non-smokers and we simply say NOPE and smile!!!

Several of the old timers have said that we have to go through a whole year to get through all the triggers that the different seasons bring us. We have to learn to live without smoking and it takes some time! Have patience and know that the smoking thoughts will eventually fade. I'm still not completely over it yet, but I think I'm getting closer! You will get there to! Congratulations on your 41 days, Gimm!!! Only 9 more till you can take that cruise!!!

Like Jazz, the only time I think about my old habit is when I log in to SSC! If I see a group of smokers huddled outside a building then yes I am reminded of how that used to be me.

But on the whole, as the new habits take form, the old ones we think about less and less.

I would bet a lot of it is habit. You're going to go through a lot of "firsts" during the first year of your quit. Many of these "firsts" will trigger thoughts of smoking again. But...they're just thoughts. Don't act on them, and you'll be free. It took me a long time, but I hardly ever think about smoking now. For some, it comes sooner. You're doing great!

I don't think we ever get to completely forget that we ever smoked. But, rumor has it, it gets better. I do have the thoughts every now and then. But they are not as strong as I had them at 10 days or 20 days... it is more of a nagging feeling... But that too shall pass they say. And eventually we'll go for months at a time without even a thought. And then maybe years. Wouldn't that be nice...lol

Hang in there Gimm. Your determination is amazing. And look at you. You are doing it!!! 40 days without smoking. Yay! To 40 more.

Wondering when i'm gonna stop wanting to smoke! I'm not having any real cravings or withdrawal per say, but I still want to smoke often. I still think about it a lot still. Smoking has been a part of my life for many many years. For the first time, I smelled someone that smokes yesterday and she smelled bad. I never realized how bad it smells, because when you smoke, you dont notice it. I never plan on smoking again. I surely don't want to go thru this again!! lol
