Oh, how I hate that muscle tension in my shoulder, neck and upper back!! My doctor told me the best thing to do is to stretch a few times a day - especially when you feel the pain coming on. - Put one arm over your head and stretch it over your head for a few seconds and then do the other arm. - Push your shoulders up into your ears as far as you can and hold it for a few second and then let them drop for a few seconds and then do it again. - Stretch both of you arms as far in front of you as you can, causing your upper back to arch and hold it for a few seconds. Holding your hands, lift your arms up over your head and stretch. - Push your chin into your chest and slowly roll your head to the right and then to the left. Do this slowly and a few times in both directions. Stretch, stretch, stretch. That's really the only relief. I get it so bad that I get sharp pains down my arms into my fingers and sometimes my shoulder and upper arm will go numb. I found out about all this because my left arm kept going numb and I thought I was having a heart attack, which is why I went to the doctors. Hope that helps!

Hi! Does anybody know a good exercise or trick to relieve and/or prevent muscle tension in the upper back and shoulder area? I've just started work after 2 weeks of vacation and i have an office job. I've been feeling really crappy for a while, dizziness and nausea I believe is from my Paxil withdrawal, and now this tension-related pain has just popped up. I walk 20 mins every morning and also at lunchtime, but the tension is still there... any tricks? Thanks!
